OAP Funding Approved Programs:

Build & Play Program

The Build & Play program assists in the advancement of social abilities by promoting the practice of problem-solving, turn-taking, patience, interpersonal communication, and maintaining eye contact. Lego is employed as an instrument to enhance motivation for positive peer interaction, and structured use of it aids in emotional regulation and fine motor skills enrichment.

The program spans over 8 weeks, with our Instructor Therapists facilitating and supervised by our BCBA and Disability Inclusive Consultant. Each session is for an hour and a half per week. During each session, participants are divided into small groups and assigned roles to collaboratively construct a Lego set.

PEERS®

The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relationship Skills (PEERS®), created by UCLA, offers social skills training for adolescents and young adults through a well-established manualized intervention. While it has been proven to be effective with those on the autism spectrum, it may also be beneficial for individuals with ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and other similar difficulties. This program runs for 12 consecutive weeks, with both the teen/young adult and parent participating simultaneously.

PEERS aims to help motivated 7th-12th grade teens learn how to initiate and maintain friendships. During group sessions, they are taught essential social skills and have opportunities to practice through role-plays and various activities. Weekly homework assignments encourage further practice of the newly acquired skills.

Parents, too, are involved in the process and learn how to support their teens in their social growth. They are given coaching tips and expected to provide feedback during the socialization homework assignments.

The program spans over 12 weeks, with our Instructor Therapists facilitating and supervised by our BCBA and PEERS Certified – Disability Inclusive Consultant.
