Navigating the Educational System
Navigating the education system can be overwhelming. Our first step is a one-on-one consultation regarding your child’s current school situation and history and reviewing all documents (previous IEPs, assessments, diagnosis, etc.). From this, we develop a detailed summary of our action plan and how we may provide support. We work collaboratively with you to review the next steps toward your child’s education plan and work through the complex and emotional situations that may arise.
We can help you prepare you for an IEP/IPRC meeting and future school meetings by assisting in formulating your questions and concerns, your requests for support, reviewing and revising current goals, and providing guidance on what documentation you may require. We can also accompany you to an IEP/IPRC meeting (in-person, by phone, or virtually) to listen and provide support and insight when negotiating your needs.
We offer support and advice as you work collaboratively with the school board to ensure your child receives the appropriate services required. We can offer support to parents online, in-person, email, or phone to support you through this journey.
Disability Services Resource Consultation
Navigating the social services and resources available for individuals with disabilities can be overwhelming. We provide support to parents and families navigating the Disabilities System through community resource consultation, support with funding applications (Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities, Special Services at Home, Ontario Autism Program, Support Our Troops, Developmental Services of Ontario – Passport), and referral support for specialized services. The first step is a one-on-one consultation regarding your child’s current needs, concerns/questions, and goals. From this, we provide a detailed summary of our action plan and offer ongoing support to parents via online, in-person, email, or phone.
Developmental Disability Person-Directed Planning Services
Person-directed planning or person-centered planning is a collaborative process that assists individuals with developmental disabilities to create a meaningful life within their community by identifying their life goals. This process consists of setting goals, developing strategies, and outlining tasks and resources needed to accomplish their goals. We can support this process by spending time with an individual to listen to their dreams, aspirations, and plans for the future, which we document together.
Fees
Consultation services may be paid for with Passport funding, through an Employee Assistance Program, through private health insurance, or privately.
